For teachers

Turn your YouTube videos into interactive language lessons.

You publish on YouTube. Shadowing Player adds the learning experience: sentence practice, recall, random drills, quizzes on the video, and a way for students to track what they have mastered.

To publish a lesson for your video, sign in and open Teacher Studio.

Your video stays on YouTube

You do not upload video to Shadowing Player. A lesson is a small description of your video: where each sentence starts and ends, its translation, and any quiz questions. YouTube plays the video; the lesson tells the player what to do with it.

You

  1. Publish the video on your YouTube channel
  2. Describe it in a lesson: sentence timing, translations, quizzes
  3. Share the video with your students

Your students

  1. Open the same video on YouTube
  2. Practise sentence by sentence with your lesson
  3. Mark favorites and mastered sentences

For teaching English, and for teaching Korean

Shadowing Player is not an English-only tool. A lesson says which language the video speaks, and everything else follows from that.

What works today, and what is planned

Today

  • All five kinds of lesson on this page already work this way.

With Teacher Studio

  • Students who turn on Teacher Lessons in the extension are offered your lesson when they open your video, with no file to pass around.
  • Sign in on this website and turn on Teacher Studio to start. A published lesson is public.
